Do other jurisdictions offer BC FOODSAFE certificates?
BC certification is not available in other jurisdictions. Non-BC schools, colleges, health units, and other groups or individuals may purchase our curriculum materials and offer their own certificate. However, others may not name their program or certificate FOODSAFE, as that is our registered trademark. The British Columbia Health Act: Food Premises – Training Regulation states that the operator or one person per shift when the operator is absent must hold a certificate for the “successful completion of the food handler training program known as FOODSAFE or its equivalent.” Other food safety programs may apply to the BC Centre for Disease Control to have their program evaluated for equivalency to FOODSAFE. The FOODSAFE Implementation Manual contains information on topics such as delivery standards and instructor certification that might be useful to other jurisdictions.
