Do Osteopaths understand medical issues?
Osteopaths undergo a considerable amount to training in medical sciences, and are required to complete in excess of 1250 hours of clinical treatment before qualifying. While most Osteopaths are not doctors, we are trained in the use of medical equipment, and where necessary perform detailed neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory testing to assist the diagnosis. To be able to practice as an Osteopath, we must be registered as an active member of the General Osteopathic Council, our regulating body. Osteopaths must also participate in annual Continuing Professional Development (CDP), staying up-to-date with advances in medicine and Osteopathic practice.
