Do open textbooks have any kind of quality control?
Some open textbook resources ensure the quality of their textbooks in much the same way as traditional publishers. Flat World Knowledge, for example, maintains editorial control of the textbook. The Global Text Project assigns the an editor-in-chief for each volume, and each chapter is reviewed by an expert in the field. Other resources have less centralized means of quality control and review. Connexions , for example, uses a “Lens” system through which groups and individuals can highlight texts they judge to be of high quality.
