Do Opals Bring Bad Luck?
It is a popular myth that wearing opals will bring you bad luck if opal is not your birthstone. This myth dates back to the early 18th century when the book Anne of Gerstein was published. In the book the death of a character is attributed to the wearing of opal. Opal is one of my favorite gemstones. I wear it frequently, have not had any bad luck that I could trace back to the wearing of opal and I am not a Libra. There are 4 different types of opal: black opal which is normally the most expensive, fine white opal, translucent opal and common opal. The white opal with multicolor flashes shown in this introduction is an opal doublet. It’s about 4.3 carats and while it looks very impressive I purchased this doublet for about $43.
