Do only Catholics believe in purgatory?

0

Most other denominations don’t have a strict system of beliefs, the way the Catholic Church does. I had purgatory explained to me as a purification that takes place, in order for the sinner to be able to live in the presence of the Lord. Rather than a physical place where people burn who don’t deserve heaven or hell. I think that the doctrine defined this way would be consistent with the beliefs of many Christians. But if we are talking about a place named Purgatory, I think only The Catholics and possibly the Eastern Orthodox christians would believe in Purgatory.

“Purgatory” doesn’t exist. Catholicism is not Christian. Catholicism leads to eternal torment in hell, because catholicism teaches works for salvation (Galatians 1:6-9). The truth is that death brings IMMEDIATE heaven or hell, depending ONLY on whether you believe in Jesus alone for salvation or not. Heaven is eternal joy with the Lord! 😀 Hell is eternal torment. Nobody has to be sent to hell. So to be in heaven and not hell, believe in Jesus alone for salvation now! 🙂 Jesus is God, and Jesus loves you so very much! 😀 Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus alone to save you! It is impossible to lose or “leave” salvation (John 6:39-40, 1 John 5:13). The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell, is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). I’m only aware of Catholics believing in purgatory. Bible-believing Christians, who know Christ is the only way to heaven, do not.

Some Catholics believe in purgatory (though I don’t know too many who do), but Christians of other denominations only believe in heaven and hell.

Some Anglican groups believe in Purgatory. Other Christian groups have ideas similar to Purgatory. Purgatory is a spiritual inheritance from Judaism. As found on Jewish Encyclopedia.com… “as in the teaching of the Shammaites: “In the last judgment day there shall be three classes of souls: the righteous shall at once be written down for the life everlasting; the wicked, for Gehenna; but those whose virtues and sins counterbalance one another shall go down to Gehenna and float up and down until they rise purified; for of them it is said: ‘I will bring the third part into the fire and refine them as silver is refined, and try them as gold is tried’ [Zech. xiii. 9.]; also, ‘He [the Lord] bringeth down to Sheol and bringeth up again'” (I Sam. ii. 6).” Purgatory is a place or state in which the soul of a Heaven bound person is cleansed before entering the full presence of God. We have taints that make us prone to sin. We have taints from personal sin. We may have fond memories associated
