Do old people fear crimes that rarely happen?

Okay, lets start with the title (You asked for an explanation, you got one. I will apologise now for the lengthy answer.) ‘Do old people fear crimes that rarely happen?’ The questions is asking if the older generation of people (Eg, Your Grandma, Grandad etc.) are scared of crimes that are not happening that often. So for Your coursework you need to explain this and your personal views. One opinion (and mine I dare add) is that of the mass media. The older generation had news papers etc who portrait more ‘acuaccurateews readings. However, in todays modern society ‘bad news is good news’ when it comes to the media. Therefore the mass media always displays the bad points of society as this sells papers. Therefore the older generation fear more since they are reading/seeing all this crime on the television or news papers. This is true of other generations too! It is proven that the fear of crime is high when the actual crime statistics are dropping.
