Do oil spills contain metal elements?
Crude oil spills do contain metallic elements. Depending on the qualities and location of the crude oil spilled, this oil often contains very small percentages of vanadium, nickel, iron and copper, with the total mass of metal less than 0.1 percent by weight. All metals in oil are removed by the refining process.References:Speight, J. G.: “The Chemistry and Technology of Petroleum, 4th Ed.”; CRC Press (2007); P.
