Do NYPD homicide Detectives work in the same precinct as other Departments?
In NYC a precinct detective will work a homicide in his area if it is simple. If at all complicated or appears to be related to other deaths around town central homicide is called in. Central homicide works day shift and is on call out the rest of the time. That this just NYC. LAPD is similar but not exactly. Chicago has the city divided into 5 areas. An area homicide detective is assigned to a homicide in his area. In Chicago they work two shifts of 10 hours a day. Other detectives handle things during off times and then turn over to the homicide detective assigned.
