Do norvasc causes heart attacks?
Norvasc does not protect you from having a heart attack. It lowers blood pressure (among other things, see below) to help prevent, but not guarantee, one does not have a heart attack. Yes, when taking this type of medication you should have regular check ups to check your potassium levels, electroylyte levels, etc. I have to keep a regular check on my potassium level because mine tends to fluctuate with the medications I am on. Taking calcium channel blocker medications such as Norvasc can lower potassium levels, electroylyte imbalances, etc., and lower potassium levels and electroylyte imbalances could lead to a heart attack, but I have not heard that the drug itself will cause a heart attack alone.
