do NON-SMOKERS get lung cancer????
Non-smokers lung cancer appears different than smokers. Non-smoker’s cancer is characterized by a mutation in the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) See, Lynch Activating mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor underlying responsiveness of non-small-cell lung cancer to gefitinib, N Engl J Med. 2004 May 20;350(21):2129-39. Non-smokers should generally be tested for the EGFR mutation because anti-EGFR drugs like Tarceva play a critical role in their treatment.
