Do nipple piercings affect breastfeeding?
After our daughter was born, I had met a woman in the hospital who was having a really hard time with breastfeeding because she had one of her nipples pierced. The doctor felt that there was scar tissue there preventing the milk/colostrum from being expressed. I don’t know what became of her because I was discharged the next day. I know the nurses were rushing about with the lactation specialists trying to get the baby to latch onto that breast and the baby would try and become frustrated. I met her in the nursery- I went to get our baby because they took her to draw blood and were gone forever. This was only one person and it may have been the way that her piercing was done. I am not sure- but it’s definately something I would disuss with your doctor. So, talk to your doctor, do your research about breastfeeding now, and from there try it if you can. Congrats to you!
