Do newborn babies understand kisses?

No they don’t understand kisses and they don’t know what we mean when we say we love them, but it definitely makes them feel more safe and secure and with the tone of your voice when you say ” i love you ” they feel more comforted. My son isn’t sure about kisses, he always looks shocked when i give him one lol, when i tell him i love him, cuddle him and speak to him he always falls asleep and feels secure, it’s like when he’s crying and i pick him up he stops within a few seconds. They definitely don’t understand but it does make them feel safe.
