Breastmilk tastes better than formula. (Breastmilk is very sweet. Formula is sweet too, but also has a slightly metallic taste, due to the large amounts of iron in it.) So yes, many babies, given the choice WILL opt for breastmilk. I understand your desire to give your wife a break, but supplementing with formula, even if baby DOES like it, is really not a good idea, especially this early. For every baby who refuses the bottle/formula, there are 5 babies who get nipple confused and begin to nurse poorly, or find the bottle to be ‘easier’, and refuse the breast. Also, supplementing will keep mom’s supply from increasing as it should. If you want to help your wife, there are MANY ways to do so that don’t put breastfeeding in jeopardy, or expose baby to the risks of formula. Suggest that your wife just go to bed with baby. She can sleep between feedings, and rest/relax while baby nurses. In the meantime, you do the housework, the diaper changes, the baths, bring your wife snacks, and tend
