Do nails breathe?

No, nails do not breathe. If they did they would have suffocated long ago when we applied our first coat of polish as kids. They are made up of dead cells that are constantly being pushed out over the nail bed. They are composed of keratin protein very similar to hair. That is also why they do not hurt when you cut them.
