Patients do not have to be fasting for Total Cholesterol and HDL Cholesterol testing. Triglycerides and Glucose can increase markedly after eating. For accurate Triglyceride and Glucose results patients should be fasting for 12 hours before blood is drawn for testing. The Triglyceride result is used in calculating the LDL result so for accurate LDL results the patient should also be fasting.
