Like all battery chargers, they will need some time to charge the battery up fully. However, if you have returned to your car after not using it for a long time (been away on holiday etc.) you may find that a few minutes is all it needs to have enough power to start the car. Then providing all is working normally with the car it will charge itself up as you drive. A full charge may take quite a few hours, so best idea is to leave it charging overnight. If your battery is running flat with normal use, it could be time to change the battery or check your alternator.
