Do mothballs work in the skunk den to keep them away?
Mothballs are proving to be way more dangerous than first realized, and many people don’t use them anymore. Mothballs were developed as a way to deter moths from nesting and feeding on woolen clothing, primarily in sealed places such as closets and that is the only way they should be used. That’s why they are called “Moth balls”. One of the key ingredients in moth balls is naphthalene, thought by some to be a carcinogen, and that’s enough to keep us away from them. So we have no experience of how effective moth balls are against skunks. But if they are, it is reasonable to assume they are equally dangerous to humans, pets, birds and your drinking water. Also, keep in mind, moth balls are flammable. Ultimately this idea is probably about as stupid as pouring gasoline under your front porch to chase away a skunk. Please be very careful what you are doing around your home.
