Veterinary graduates end up in all sorts of roles. As well as veterinary practices (be they mixed, small animal, exotics, farm or horse based) there are government jobs in DEFRA, meat hygiene work supervising food safety in abattoirs, port health posts at major ports and airports and roles in the military within the Royal Army Veterinary Corp. Some students will take junior posts at university referral hospitals and continue to specialise in surgery, medicine, anaesthesia or many other areas. All vets, regardless of what area of the profession they work in, are required to continue their studies throughout their career and attend regular courses and updates.
