Do Miracles Happen Today?
Some of God’s greatest miracles will occur in the future. For example, the next great miracle He will perform is called the rapture–Jesus Christ will take all Christians out of this natural world (cf., 1 Cor. 15:51-52; 1 Thess. 4:13-17). The book of Revelation speaks of many miracles God will perform during the Great Tribulation. God can do miracles now also if He chooses to–He can supernaturally in response to prayer, and He continues to work the miracle of the new birth. But I don’t believe He is presently working miracles through the agency of specific men or women. The gift of miracles has ceased. Someone may disagree with me because of John 14:12, where Jesus says, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do, because I go unto my Father.” Doesn’t that verse indicate we will do what Jesus did?
