Do Metropolitan Special Constables receive a salary?

0

All Specials are volunteers in the eyes of the police. However, university staff will receive their normal work salary for the days on patrol, paid as usual by the university. However it is important to note that universities are providing leave to staff during this time. Special Constables are under the control of the Metropolitan Police Service when on duty. For a university this means that there should be no concerns around insurance, liability etc. Of course, the paid leave aspects do not apply to students, but the benefits to students are still very important in terms of life skills, course and career development. All Specials are paid certain allowances and are entitled to free travel on Transport for London (TfL)’s transport network (London Underground, TfL-managed London Overground services, London Buses, DLR and the Croydon Tramlink) on and off duty; in uniform or in plain clothes.
