Do meteorites have an orbit?
Meteorites are all sitting on the surface of the Earth, so share the Earth’s orbit. When they were still in space they were called “meteoroids” and each had a unique orbit around the Sun which happened to intersect with the Earth’s orbit, causing them to flare as meteors and land on the surface of the Earth. Many meteors share very similar orbits and cause meteor showers. Usually these are the remnants of comets, such as this month’s Orionids, which are associated with Halley’s Comet.
