Do men typically avoid dating single moms? And if so why?

I believe the primary reason some men avoid dating single moms is because it is essentially dating the mother AND her kids. If the relationship works out, then the man will become a step-father to the kids. Sometimes that works out OK, sometimes it doesn’t. That adds a level of complication that some men would just rather avoid.
