Do memes influence genes?
Memes influence genes, and vice versa. Genes, of course, provide the vehicles needed for memetic replication. Memes, in turn, compose part of genes’ environment and therefore can affect genes and even evolution itself. For example, Susan Blackmore, author of The Meme Machine, believes that language may have evolved through memetic pressure. Please see Memes and Genes, and see Blackmore’s book for more information on her theories.
