Do Medicare HMOs Pay for Long-Term Care?
Some Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) have a contract with the federal government to provide Medicare covered services to Medicare beneficiaries. However, members of HMOs generally have no more coverage for long-term care than someone with any other type of health care coverage. These HMOs usually provide only those home health and skilled nursing facility services that are covered by Medicare. HMO members ordinarily are not required to pay copayments for these services as long as the HMO determines that their care continues to meet all of the requirements for Medicare coverage.
