Do map turtles need company?

Here’s the way I see it, if you’re out around a pond that turtles live in, and the whole bank is nice and sunny, they do NOT stack up and pal around together. The only time turtles go looking for “friends” in the wild is during breeding season, and their “friendships” don’t last very long. Multiple turtles in a tank is asking for trouble if they both end up being males or if the tank’s not big enough… remember 10 gallons of water per inch of carapace length (top shell). A crowded tank equals territoriality and food aggression. One is plenty considering they can live to be 35 years old or more.
