Do “mainstream” Mormons (Latter Day Saints) believe in polygamy in the afterlife?
Well, the word Polygamy is weird…especially after what has been splattered across the news (and i must clarify that religous sect is NOT a part of the mormons – they created their own religion). It is hard to explain to non-members the concept of “polygamy” in the next life. What it boils down to is this: The priesthood is held by men and the only way for a women to be a part of the priesthood is to be sealed to a priesthood holder. If you go to church, you will find (and i’m sorry to say this) more single women than men. In other words, in the next life, there will be more women in the highest degree of glory (the celestial kingdom) and in order for them to receive exaltation (in the celestial kindgom – the highest degree possible) they must have fulfilled the covenant of being sealed to a priesthood holder. Sad to say, there will not be enough men to be sealed to all the women. I want to clarify that this has nothing to do with sex. It has to do with being “connected” to the priest
