Do Magick spells really ever work, or is it just coincidence if they do?
They most likely don’t work. When they appear to work there can be multiple things at work. There’s confirmation bias (remembering the hits and not the misses), post hoc ergo propter hoc (blaming an event on the spell just because the event happened after the spell was cast: your ‘coincidence’), and many other basic logical fallacies that people use to ‘prove’ that their spells worked and to rationalize when they didn’t work so they don’t have to give up their worldview.
The same as any other religions belief or ritual does. If you are of one of the Abrahamic faiths, prayer did it, if you are of an Native American/ Shamanistic/ Pagan beliefs, the ritual, offering, singing, chanting, spell work did it, If you are of the Buhddist faith or into ancestor worship, the deities and your ancestors helped, or one of the thousand other religions that believe in a single or multi deity belief, then the gods or demi gods did it. It is all based on will, energy manipulation, your deity, your faith, and the belief in the positive that can make anything happen. For myself, my petitions, rituals, and spell work is, for me, all of thee above. I feel that it works for me rather than coinsidence. For you, maybe, looking at someone and wanting them to be a nicer person will not work, but being nice to them and showing them how nice it is to be nice, might, make them be a nicer person over time.
