Do laws like the new Arizona immigration law have racist themes?
I liked this letter to our government, Dear Mr. President, Senate and House of Representatives: I’m planning to move my family and extended family (18-20 mouths) into Mexico for my health, and I would like to ask you to assist me. We’re planning to simply walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and we’ll need your help to make a few arrangements. We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I’m sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Calderon, that I’m on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following: Free medical care for my entire family. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not. All Mexico government forms need to also be printed in English . I want my kids to be taught Spanish by English-speaking (bi-lingual) teachers. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history. I
I don’t think that the signing of the Arizona immigration law has something to do with racism. We all know that illegal immigration is a problem but I think it has no solution. In fact, the whole United States comprises of many illegal immigrants. That’s the reality and we can’t deny that. However, I am not going to condemn the efforts Arizona is making, because although I hear a lot of complaints concerning the immigration bill I do not seem to be listening to any solutions to the difficulties. I can sit here all day and debate both the good and bad issues with illegal immigration, but the fact remains, everybody is complaining and nobody is acting!
