Do laws for matrimonial abuse really favor women?

I don’t know about the divorce laws in India, but in the U.S. the laws have traditionally favored women. This is because it was assumed that (a) the man was at fault; and (b) the women could not support herself because she was home taking care of the couple’s children. Times have changed, women break up homes as often as men do, and the divorce laws are no longer as punitive toward men as they used to be. Alimony, if it is awarded, is usually limited to a few years. Men still have to pay child support, assuming that the man is better paid and the woman has custody. As always, whoever has the better lawyer usually gets the better deal.
