According to one bit of gambling folklore, casinos pump pure oxygen through the air conditioning in order to make gamers light-headed and relaxed about the prospect of losing. In another version, the casinos do it during the night hours so customers will carry on playing and not go to sleep. Both versions are nonsense – gassing customers would be illegal. But a casino in Atlantic City did experiment with scents, hoping for an effect similar to one supermarkets get by circulating the smell of baking bread.
