Do large comic book movies that coincide with FCBD play a role in attracting attention?
DJK: Definitely. Not to downplay DC, but last year and this year, Marvel is having a movie release on Free Comic Book Day weekend (this year it’s “X-men Origins: Wolverine”). They’ve got their movie schedule for the next three years happening with it as well. It gets a great response. “Iron Man,” for kids and adults, is just great. We definitely get the [walk-in] traffic from that. What about in terms of independent comic publishers? DJK: Image in the past has always been my favorite. This year, IDW is pushing out a lot of stuff. IDW is finally trying to step into the game. They’re trying to show Image and Dark Horse that they are a competitor. They’re doing the right moves for it. Are there any problems that come with participating in FCBD? DJK: From our point of view, there are a lot of problems. We’re getting a lot of this extra stuff in along with our regular shipments. For us, Tuesday is already a really chaotic day because that’s when we get our regular shipments but we’ve also g
