Do laboratories need to gear up to validate new methods?
Definitely, that appears to be the major impact of the Final Rule for many small laboratories that have been inspected for compliance to CLIA, rather than inspected for CAP or JCAHO accreditation. Any laboratory that performs non-waived testing will have to perform validation studies for any new methods introduced after April 24, 2003.
