Do Kelly Blue Book Prices matter to dealers at all?
I don’t know of a single dealer that has used KBB in the last 5-7 years. The only time KBB is even referenced is when they print out there Karpower checklists for a pricetag on the window. Dealers use a variety of methods to determine the price of a car. There is of course the money we spent to buy it, recondition it, make it ready for sale, and then there is the fair market value. The value of a car will fluctuate greatly depending on where that car is. For example, if you have a Subaru Legacy Wagon, it will bring a fair to middle price in Mississippi where it seldom snows and AWD is not a necessity. However take the exact same Legacy to Minnesota, and it will bring all the money and then some. MArket demand will drive the price of the car. This is why many dealers will buy cars all over the country. It might make sense to buy a 2WD truck at auction in Montana in teh winter, since no one will bid on it. But buy the 4WD truck in the summer in Arizona for the same reasons.
