Do Keeshonds need a lot of exercise or a big yard?
Actually not. Having been bred for life on a barge and later as a companion dog, the Keeshond has learned well how to be happy in a relatively small amount of space. Keeshonds are well-suited to life in the house, in fact they prefer it. Being a companion breed it is absolutely essential that they be allowed to be an integral part of your life. They will insist on being involved in every aspect of your daily routine. If you are gone for long periods of time you will need to have the necessary facilities for safekeeping the dog until you return. This will generally mean a fenced in area where the dog may find shade and shelter from the elements and where the dog can relieve itself, find food and water. The area could be as small as an enclosed kitchen, but until your puppy is old enough to hold it for several hours, be prepared to clean up messes upon your return.
