The policy of the JISC is that JANET may not be offered as a general-purpose carrier for NHS networking. Therefore, there is no unqualified entitlement of any NHS organizations or staff to connect to JANET. However, there is a special case of use of JANET by students and university and research council staff located in NHS organisations (such as teaching hospitals). Such staff and students may use JANET without the need for additional payment, provided that such use is related to their university or research council duties. They may not use JANET for other work, and no other person may use a JANET link which has been provided for this purpose, unless an appropriate licence has been granted and the required payment made. It is the responsibility of the university or research council to ensure that these conditions are met.
