Do job search engines like Monster and Hotjobs really work?

I did not find Hotjobs very useful, but Monster is great. I found a job posting on Monster and applied for it and was subsequently hired. When I left that position, I posted my resume and applied for jobs posted. The phone rang off the hook. In less than a week I had several interviews and even started a “bidding war”. I also used it as a resource to determine how much I was worth. Much to my surprise, it was $15-25k more a year than what I had been paid. Their resume’ writing tips and services are also good. Overall, it is a good resource if nothing else. Having said that, I had success with it because what I do is highly specialized and employees in my line of work with proper credentials are hard to come by.
