Here’s how it is offensive: My friend’s sister was at University, her first year. First time away from home. She’s befriended by a lovely girl on her course. The girl is wearing a star of david, it’s obvious she’s a fellow Jew. They become good friends, fairly quickly. Then the girl, we’ll call her ‘Carol’ invites my friend’s sister to ‘synagogue’. The sister is delighted; she goes. Nothing wrong in that. A few weeks later, Carol starts showing her some ‘jewish scripture’ and they discuss it. It seems fine. It’s from a book called the ‘Brit Chadasha’. Do you know what that is? It’s Hebrew – for THE NEW TESTAMENT. Yes, that’s right: the CHRISTIAN bible. And Carol now starts speaking often of ‘Yeshua’. Now my friend’s sister is really confused. Without even realising, she’s started EMBRACING Christianity – while being told it’s a ‘liberal’ form of ‘judaism’. But the ‘synagogue’ was a CHURCH decked out to resemble a synagogue. Carol is a BAPTIST, and about as Jewish as a bacon sandwhich.
