The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception teaches that Mary herself was preserved from all sin; that she was born a perfect human being so that she could give birth to a perfect son who would become the Messiah. It is a doctrine that contradicts scripture. The Immaculate Conception, according to Roman Catholic dogma, refers to the conception of Mary, without any stain of original sin. The dogma thus says that, from the first moment of her existence, from the second she was conceived, God preserved her from original sin which original sin stains every single human being by means of Adam. (Sin is genetic.) The word is derived from the Latin macula which means stain. Thus, according to this doctrine, Mary was conceived by normal human means (the sexual intimacy of her parents) but was born without the stain of original sin.
