I lived in Italy before and they do eat a whole lot of pasta. If you go to their supermarket, they have SO many different types of pasta that I’ve never even seen before and they all come in different sizes. They even have the healthy, grained version of the pasta. I consider pasta their staple food (perhaps along with bread and espresso) and it’s easy to prepare a simple pasta with sugo dish for lunch or dinner. But contrary to the stereotypes, it’s not the only thing they eat. Their meals are divided into several courses and pasta comes under “il Primo” along with rice dishes like Risotto, which is served after the appetizers, and before “il Secondo”, which includes fish and other types of meat like chicken, beef, lamb, pork, etc. Then afterwards, the potatoes or salads are served, and then finally, dessert. And by rule of thumb, they must serve it in that order. During my stay, I’ve never been served the food altogether. I’m not sure if it varies from one region, family, or individu

Some places in Italy they eat very little pasta; they prefer risotto in some areas. Even where pasta is popular, most people don’t have it every day. As in the United States, dinner might consist of roast chicken, broccoli and fresh bread, in which case pasta just wouldn’t fit in.
