Do Ionic type air purifiers really work?
Ionic type air purifiers or Ionizers, or negative ion generators, do have the benefit of causing particles and dust to stick to materials near the ionizer. However, ionizers can produce ozone as a by-product. The Ionic type of air purifier uses an electrostatic precipitator to attract airborne contaminants to a metal collection plate to remove airborne dust and allergens from your air. However, many electrostatic precipitator air cleaners can emit small amounts of ozone into the air and have been reported to cause respiratory problems and in some cases, headaches. Some people with asthma and other lung conditions have found that exposure to ozone increases their symptoms significantly.
