Do invite-only BitTorrent sites have less problems with the RIAA than public sites?
To my knowledge, no one has gotten in trouble yet for using a private invite-only BitTorrent site. However… I used to know people who traded privately through FTP sites a couple of years ago. One of their members got busted and then *everyone* who had access to the FTP got in trouble because they were able to track the activity logs from that guy’s computers. I think the private BT sites are much smarter than that and that they cover their tracks better, but it’s already possible to packet-sniff what people are downloading. It’s just not cost-effective. Bottom line, if you’re doing something illegal you have to expect to pay the price for it eventually. But if you must use Torrents and you can get invites to private sites, you’re going to be much safer. There’s a good discussion and some more info on this topic at the source link.
