Do indications such as “Swiss Design” or “Swiss Research” fall under the same criteria as ‘Made in Switzerland designations?
It depends of the particular use, especially the means and way in which the indication is affixed to the product or its packaging (size of letters, context, etc.). If the indication “Swiss Design” or “Swiss Research” is affixed to a product or its packaging in such a way as that it can be understood as an indication of source, the same criteria as for the use of a ‘made in Switzerland’ designation apply (see Questions 13 and 14). If the indication “Swiss Design” or “Swiss Research” is affixed to a product or its packaging such that it clearly refers only to certain steps of the manufacturing or a characteristic element, then only the general criterion for manufacturing costs applies. For instance, it is legal if the indication “Swiss Research” is affixed in such a way that it is a clear reference to the research and development activities and 60% of the research and development costs for this product occurred in Switzerland.
