Lead has a greater knockdown/penetrating efficiency at longer ranges than steel. I typically shot whatever I found whenever I was trying to buy some shells. If I am holding the shotgun and trying to get a coyote into shotgun range, I am most comfortable with a 20-30 yard shot. That is my goal.
