Your mom is dead wrong. You need to change your tampons every 4-6 hours – even 8 hours is too long, consider that tampons encourage bacterial growth and prevent your vagina cleaning itself, allowing 8 hours of bacterial growth is unhygienic as well as unsafe. Just because your mom never had TSS does not mean that it is not a real and serious risk, also although she has not had TSS that doesn’t mean that it hasn’t risked her health as TSS is not the only risk associated with tampon use. Tampons have in the past been linked to endometriosis, cancer and fertility problems (thanks to bleaching processes used on commercial tampons), tampons are also one of the most common causes of vaginal infections and menstrual cramps – whenever a tampon is used it negatively effects vaginal health so they would have always been causing her vaginal health problems whether she was aware of those problems or not. To be honest most mothers I know don’t even allow their daughters to use tampons because of th
