There is always a degree of risk. However, a legitimate headhunter (and it is very much in each headhunter’s interest to be legitimate, or he or she will soon be out of business) will not present your credentials to a client without your prior approval. Once your credentials have been presented to the client (with your approval), a completely different group of individuals is then in control of confidentiality vis-a-vis your candidacy and the degree of risk escalates. The extent to which interested parties at the client’s end maintain your confidentiality (while out for lunch, having drinks after work, playing golf or tennis at the club, etc.) is beyond the control of any headhunter.
