Do I need to take the TOEFL exam? Can the TOEFL exam be waived in certain cases for international students?
Immigrants to the United States, permanent residents, and applicants who are not citizens of the United States, whose native language is not English, must present evidence of their ability to carry on their studies in English by taking the TOEFL exam. The minimum allowable TOEFL score is 500 (or 173 on the computer-based test). Students admitted with scores below 580 (237 computer-based) will be tested for English proficiency upon arrival and will be required to complete any assigned ESL courses along with their regular academic program. Please see the Application for Admission to the Graduate School for more details.
