You don’t say whether your solid walls are bare brick or old plaster.If they are bare brick,you will need one coat of ‘roughing on’ plaster and one coat of skim finish plaster.If it is old plaster that is on,then tap on it all over to make sure that non is loose (you can tell by the different sounds)if any is loose, knock it off and replaster that bit with roughing on plaster,your local builders merchant will put you right with which type of plaster.If there is sound old plaster on both the solid walls and the plasterbourded walls then I’d give them a brushed on coat of PVA bonding diluted 25%with water75%.Anything will stick to this.Good Luck.
