There is no pretreatment required in advance of the Smoothbeam laser acne treatment. You should, however, avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before and during the laser procedure. Avoid the use of Retin A or other irritating skin products for 3 days prior to the treatment. Also, your skin should be thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup, creams, or oils on its surface before the laser procedure. Please arrive without makeup if it is at all possible. If not, we will gladly remove it for you. You can reapply your makeup before you leave. Do not take any oral antibiotics, antifungals, or NSAID’s (Naprosyn, Advil, Aleve) on your treatment day. If you have ever had herpes or think you may have (cold sores or fever blisters), inform the staff prior to scheduling your appointment. Dr. Zavell will prescribe a series of anti-herpes pills to take the day before, the day of, and the day after the treatment.
