Do I need to do the Coal GMI Course or Metalliferous GMI Course?
If you are going to work on a coal mine you may need to complete the induction course -COURSE IN GENERIC INDUCTION TO COAL MINING (Core) and the Underground Elective. Nearly all coal mines in Queensland require a GMI ‘Coal Passport’ to be produced before you are allowed on site. If you are going to work on a metalliferous mine you may need to complete the induction course – COURSE IN GENERIC INDUCTION TO METALLIFEROUS MINING (Core and Underground). Not all Metalliferous Mines in Queensland require you to complete a GMI in Metalliferous Mining. However, some mines have made it a pre-requisite before you can enter their mine site. You should check with the mine you are going to be working at to determine if a “GMI passport’ is a pre-requisite to work on their mine site.
