Yes, you do need to deworm chickens, as worms affect a chicken just like they would any other animal. PLUS, when you collect eggs, you risk carrying in worm eggs too… which are sticky microscopic and come from the same vent that the eggs do. It’s also a good idea to dust chickens for fleas and mites regularly. Parasites can make a chicken more susceptible to illness, and decrease the nutrients they take in. It’s really better safe than sorry. Go to a farm supply store, feed and seed, whatever, and pick up a dewormer and a poultry dust. They don’t cost much. Follow directions. I’m not sure I’d eat the eggs for a couple days after medicating though… Edit: I raise ducks, and they do regularly have to be dewormed, as do almost all farm animals. Poultry may seem unlikely as carriers for worms, but if you think about it, they pick bugs out of manure… EW. So, they do get worms, and they can spread them to people.
